Virtual Caddie – Tour-Level Advice on Every Shot

Deep dive on Roundabout's Virtual Caddie, how to find it, set it up, use it to lower your score, improve your game, and track your progress

Updated over a week ago

Track like the pros. Play smarter. Drop strokes fast.
Roundabout’s Virtual Caddie taps A.I. plus your personal shot history to deliver instant club, aim, and plays-like yardage recommendations—right on the tee box or fairway. It factors in lie, weather, elevation, and your real miss tendencies so every decision feels like you’ve got a Tour caddie at your side. Virtual Caddie always provides a “plays like” distance (adjusted for wind and elevation), and a club recommendation to match that distance. For approach shots only, it also provides relative aim recommendations relative to the green, ie “You tend to miss left. Aim right.” Aim recommendations will not be provided for the fairway.

Do This First: Set Up Your Bag

  1. Home › Settings › Tracking Preferences > Manage Clubs – make sure all 14 slots match the sticks you actually carry.

  2. Seed Distances – From the manage clubs screen, choose Apply Default Distances (good estimate) or Enter Manually if you know your carry numbers.

  3. Switch to Smart Distances after 3-4 fully tracked rounds so Virtual Caddie uses your actual on-course yardages.

  4. Save and Exit to lock them in.

Virtual Caddie needs accurate club data to work its magic; the feature is unlocked with an Eagle-tier subscription. The Virtual Caddie button can be tapped 10 times for free, after that it requires an Eagle subscription

What it means

Why it matters

Plays-Like Yardage

Adjusted for wind & elevation

Gives the true distance the shot will play.

Recommended Club

Based on lie + your Smart Distance table

Trust the math—no second-guessing club choice.

Aim Arrow / Miss Overlay

Highlights your typical miss and suggests a safer line. This is provided only for approach shots (will not show up on fairway).

Aim away from costly misses (e.g., “tend to miss right—aim 6 yd left”).

Confidence Rings (watch)

Green = high %, Yellow = borderline

Quick risk-reward cue without pulling out the phone.

Turn Advice into Lower Scores

  1. Commit – once you accept the recommendation, swing with confidence.

  2. Override Smartly – club up/down if wind changes; Virtual Caddie recalculates after you move the pin or lie.

  3. Log Every Shot – richer data → sharper future picks.

Pro Tips

  • Re-seed before a trip – Altitude change? Update Seed or Smart Distances the night before. Basic guidance is to increase club distance by ~6% for every 1 mile of altitude increase relative to where you usually play [link]. Don’t forget to reset distances when you’re back to your normal altitude!

  • Shelf Clubs – keep situational sticks (e.g., driving iron) “On the Shelf” and swap in/out mid-round if needed.

  • Practice the Miss – overlay shows consistent short-right? Groove that fix on the range, then watch Caddie arrows migrate center-green.

  • Pair with Virtual Coach – Coach tells you what to practice; Caddie executes the plan in real time.
